Saudi Pro League champions Al Nassr have appointed Australian manager Ange Postecoglou as their new head coach on a two-year contract, marking the veteran coach’s return to football management after a brief spell away from the sidelines.

The 60-year-old takes over from Portuguese coach Jorge Jesus and will lead a star-studded Al Nassr squad featuring Cristiano Ronaldo, João Félix, Sadio Mané, and Kingsley Coman as the club prepares for the new season.

Al Nassr confirmed the appointment on Friday, welcoming Postecoglou with a social media announcement celebrating the start of a new chapter under the experienced coach.

Return to Management After Difficult Season

Postecoglou has been without a coaching role since October 2025, when he was dismissed by Nottingham Forest after just 39 days in charge.

His short tenure at the Premier League club lasted only eight matches, with Forest failing to secure a single victory during that period.

The team was also knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Championship side Swansea City, while league and European results failed to improve.

During his time away from management, Postecoglou worked as a football analyst and pundit for British broadcaster ITV Sport throughout the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Opportunity to Lead Saudi Champions

The move to Al Nassr offers Postecoglou an opportunity to rebuild his managerial reputation at one of Asia’s most ambitious clubs.

The Riyadh-based side recently secured the Saudi Pro League title and boasts one of the strongest squads in the region, led by five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo alongside several high-profile European stars.

Expectations will be high as the club looks to maintain domestic success while competing for continental honours.

Mixed Results in England

Before joining Nottingham Forest, Postecoglou spent two seasons at Tottenham Hotspur.

His time in North London produced one historic achievement, guiding Spurs to the UEFA Europa League title during the 2024-25 campaign, ending the club’s 17-year wait for major silverware.

However, domestic struggles overshadowed that success.

Tottenham finished 17th in the Premier League, narrowly avoiding relegation after suffering 22 league defeats—the highest number recorded by a team that survived in a 38-game Premier League season.

The disappointing league campaign ultimately led to his departure despite the European triumph.

A Career Built Across Continents

Postecoglou brings more than three decades of coaching experience to Al Nassr.

He began his managerial career in Australia before taking charge of the Australian national team between 2013 and 2017, leading the Socceroos at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

He later enjoyed successful spells with Japanese club Yokohama F. Marinos and Scottish giants Celtic, winning league titles with both clubs before making the move to Tottenham in 2023.

His appointment signals Al Nassr’s intent to continue attracting globally respected football figures as Saudi Arabian clubs strengthen their presence on the international stage.
