Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina, president of the African Development Bank (AfDB) has been conferred with the Chief of the Order of the Golden Heart (C.G.H), Kenya’s highest national honor.
He received the award which is in recognition of his good work with the AfDB in an event in Nairobi on Monday.
Speaking on the honor, Dr. Adesina said “Thank you very much Y.E. @WilliamsRuto, President of the Republic of Kenya, for the exceptional honour of conferring on me the Chief of the Order of the Golden Heart (C.G.H), Kenya’s highest national distinction and honour. I am most humbled and grateful. Asante Sana!🙏🏽❤️”

About the Award
The Chief of the Order of the Golden Heart (C.G.H.) is the highest national honor awarded by the Republic of Kenya. It is a prestigious recognition granted by the President of Kenya to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the nation, particularly in areas such as public service, leadership, national development, and exceptional achievements in various fields.
The C.G.H. is the highest honor a Kenyan can receive, and it is often awarded to both Kenyan citizens and non-citizens who have made significant contributions to Kenya’s development or who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership and achievements.
Dr. Adesina’s AfDB Reign
Dr. Adesina has been AfDB president since 2015 and he is set to hand over in May 2025 after ten years at the helm.
He has also been touted as a possible presidential candidate in Nigeria’s 2027 elections even though he has come out to deny interest in the post.
