Job Summary

The Portfolio Management Senior Analyst will play a key role in supporting the effective monitoring, management, and optimization of AFC’s (“Corporation”) investment division’s portfolio.

The role involves conducting financial analysis, research, data gathering/analysis, tracking projects and reporting performance, preparing relevant credit papers, and contributing to value creation in portfolio companies.

The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, understanding of at least two of AFC’s priority sectors, and a passion for driving developmental impact in Africa.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular reviews of portfolio performance, including financial, operational, and impact metrics, to ensure investments meet their strategic and developmental objectives
  • Maintain dashboards to track the performance of investments across sectors, products, and regions
  • Analyze financial statements, financial models, and reports from investee companies to assess project risks, performance, and compliance with covenants/information covenants
  • Working with Portfolio Managers, support the onboarding of new portfolio projects by coordinating a seamless handover from the relevant sector team
  • Assist in stress testing and scenario analysis for portfolio investments to evaluate resilience under various conditions
  • Identify and report early warning signs of underperformance or risks in portfolio investments and propose mitigation strategies
  • Prepare regular and ad hoc portfolio reports for internal and external stakeholders, including senior management, board committees, and donors.
  • Develop presentations and reports summarizing key findings, trends, and recommendations.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • A Master’s degree or professional qualification (e.g., CFA, CPA, AFM, FMVA) is an advantage

Experience

  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in portfolio management, investment banking, management consulting, ordevelopment finance.
  • Knowledge of development finance and its role in addressing economic challenges in Africa.
  • Familiarity with ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles and impact measurement frameworks is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel “out-of-station” with minimal prior notice

Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory, while oral and written fluency in other international languages will be an added advantage.
