The African Development Bank (AfDB) is hiring a Chief Regional Procurement Coordinator in Nairobi, Kenya.
About the Role
The Chief Regional Procurement Coordinator will ensure that procurement activities within the East Africa region comply with the Bank’s Procurement Framework. The Coordinator will guide project teams, build procurement capacity within borrowing countries, support reforms, and lead diagnostic reviews and assessments.
Duty Station: AfDB’s East Africa Regional Office, Nairobi
Reporting Line: Functionally to the Division Manager (SNFI.3); Administratively to the Regional Operations Manager for Implementation Support

Key Job Responsibilities
- Ensure adherence to procurement policy across projects in the region
- Advise on procurement planning and execution for Bank-funded operations
- Review procurement approaches in Project Appraisal Reports (PARs)
- Support reforms of procurement systems and build Borrower capacity
- Supervise a regional team of Procurement Specialists
- Lead procurement diagnostics, annual reporting, and capacity-building seminars
- Collaborate with multilateral partners on procurement harmonization
- Resolve complaints and monitor procurement performance data
Candidate Qualification Requirements
Education & Experience
Master’s degree in Engineering, Law, Business/Public Administration, Economics, or related field
Minimum 7 years’ experience in procurement for donor-funded projects
Familiarity with AfDB’s or similar institutions’ procurement policies
Experience with both sovereign and private sector procurement an advantage
Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of procurement practices (goods, works, consultancy services)
Advisory, stakeholder engagement, and capacity-building capabilities
Excellent command of English; working knowledge of French desirable
Proficient in MS Office; SAP knowledge is an asset
Proven leadership and mentoring experience
