The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has opened applications for its 2026/2027 Local Post-Graduate Scholarship Programme, inviting eligible young indigenes of the Niger Delta to apply for funding for master’s degree studies at recognised Nigerian universities.
The application deadline is November 8, 2026, according to the commission, which urged interested candidates to submit their applications early through its official website.
Eligible Courses
The NDDC said applications would be accepted for master’s degree programmes in 12 broad disciplines: Agricultural Sciences, Architecture, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Geosciences, Humanities, Information Technology, Law, Management and Social Sciences, Medical Sciences, Education, and Biotechnology/Biomedical Science.
Requirements
Applicants must be indigenes of the Niger Delta region and must not be older than 40 years.
Candidates are also required to hold a relevant bachelor’s degree from a recognised university, with at least a Second Class Lower Division.
Higher National Diploma holders must possess an Upper Credit and a relevant postgraduate diploma where applicable.
Other requirements include a valid admission letter for a master’s programme at a recognised Nigerian university and a valid National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge or exemption certificate.
How to Apply for the NDDC Scholarship
Interested candidates are required to complete the application process online through the NDDC’s official website at www.nddc.gov.ng
The required documents include a recent passport photograph, a Local Government Identification Letter, a master’s degree admission letter, relevant academic certificates, an NYSC discharge or exemption certificate, and a birth certificate or age declaration.
The selection process will begin with online applications, followed by preliminary screening based on candidates’ academic qualifications and other supporting documents.
The screening may cover WASSCE or NECO results, undergraduate qualifications, local government identification and National Identification Number (NIN), among other requirements.
Eligible applicants will subsequently sit for a computer-based test (CBT) at designated centres in Akwa Ibom, Edo and Rivers states. Candidates are required to indicate their preferred examination zone when applying.
Applicants must score at least 70 per cent in the CBT to meet the stated threshold for further consideration.
Candidates who progress beyond the test stage may be shortlisted for an oral interview before the commission conducts final verification of admission status, academic credentials, indigene status and other submitted documents.
Applications must be completed and submitted by November 8, 2026.
