The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has warned job seekers against falling victim to fraudulent recruitment schemes, stressing that it is not currently recruiting. This comes after fake employment letters, including AI-generated documents began circulating in recent days.
The warning was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the NUPRC Head of Media and Corporate Communications, Eniola Akinkuotu.
According to the commission, some of the fraudulent letters bear the names of people who are not known to the organisation, while suspected fraudsters have also been demanding money from job seekers on the promise of securing them employment at the commission.
“The NUPRC states categorically that there is no ongoing recruitment exercise at the Commission, However, when the Commission does decide to recruit, it will be done strictly in line with the extant laws and government regulations,” the commission said.
It urged members of the public to disregard purported recruitment offers and employment documents that cannot be independently verified, particularly where the individuals behind them demand payment. The commission said it had reported the activities of the suspected fraudsters to law enforcement agencies for investigation and was awaiting the outcome of the probe.
NUPRC explained that whenever it begins a recruitment exercise, the process will be conducted in accordance with applicable laws and government regulations advising job seekers to exercise caution and verify employment-related information through official channels before providing personal information or making any payment.
