Users of e-commerce platform Amazon have reported widespread disruption to its online retail platform, with both the mobile app and website appearing to suffer a major outage on Friday, February 27.
Monitoring site Down Detector recorded more than 1,420 user reports linked to Amazon UK by midday, with the volume of complaints continuing to climb into the afternoon. By 3:20 pm, over 1,600 reports had been logged, according to the latest available data.
The majority of reported issues globally, approximately 67%, were related to the checkout process. A further 24% concerned the Amazon mobile application, while 5% were linked directly to the website interface.
Users reported that problems began at around 10:50 am, with disruption intensifying toward midday. Customers attempting to complete purchases said they were unable to check out, while others noted that previously submitted orders were not appearing in their order history.
Recurring Error Message
Many shoppers encountered a recurring error message when adding items to their basket and proceeding to payment. The message read: “We’re very sorry, but we’re having trouble doing what you just asked us to do. Please give us another chance – click the Back button on your browser and try your request again.”
On Down Detector, several users described being able to move through the full checkout process only for transactions to fail with a “500 error,” typically associated with server-side technical faults. Others expressed concern that their entire order history appeared to have disappeared.
The disruption does not appear to be limited to the UK. Social media users in Spain, France and Italy also reported similar issues, suggesting the outage may be global in scope. One commenter on Down Detector claimed that Amazon customer service had acknowledged the issue via live chat, stating that technical difficulties were affecting some users worldwide.
As of the time of writing, Amazon has not issued an official public statement confirming the outage or outlining the cause of the disruption.
According to service monitoring platform Down for Everyone, Amazon experienced a separate outage earlier this month, though that incident reportedly lasted approximately one hour before service was restored.
