Trump at Davos Repeats 2020 Election Claims, Calls for Strong Borders and Media Reform

Former U.S. president uses World Economic Forum platform to revisit disputed election allegations and criticize the press

Trump to Adjust reciprocal Tariffs

Former U.S. President Donald Trump stirred controversy during a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Wednesday, using the global stage to again question the legitimacy of the 2020 U.S. presidential election and to criticize the American media.

Speaking remotely to world leaders, business executives, and policymakers, Trump claimed that the 2020 election was “rigged,” arguing that it should never have been allowed to happen as it did.

He suggested that the election outcome contributed to broader global consequences, including international conflicts, while insisting that accountability would eventually follow for those involved.

Trump offered no new evidence to support his claims, which have been repeatedly rejected by U.S. courts, state election officials, and federal agencies.

Nevertheless, he maintained that investigations would lead to prosecutions, describing the issue as “breaking news,” despite years of legal challenges failing to substantiate allegations of widespread fraud.

In his remarks, Trump broadened his message beyond the election, emphasizing what he described as the foundations of a stable nation.

He called for “strong borders,” “strong elections,” and a “free and fair” electoral process, while sharply criticizing the press, which he described as unfair and damaging to democracy.

The comments immediately drew reactions across political and media circles, with critics warning that repeating unproven claims at an international forum risks undermining trust in democratic institutions.

Supporters, however, viewed the speech as consistent with Trump’s long-standing stance on election integrity and national sovereignty.

Trump’s appearance at Davos comes as the 2024 U.S. election cycle continues to shape global perceptions of American politics, highlighting how domestic political debates in the United States increasingly resonate far beyond its borders.
