The Edo chapter of the Labour Party has insisted its gubernatorial candidate, Olumide Akpata, won the election but rigged out by the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The keenly contested Saturday’s election saw the emergence of the APC Monday Okpebholo as the winner with a total of 291,667 votes.
Arbiterz had earlier reported that Okpebholo garnered 291,667 votes to defeat Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who got 247,274 votes and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) who came a distant third in the race with 22,763 votes.
In an interview on Monday, Kelly Ogbalo, chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Edo, said the party candidate, Olumide Akpata, would have won if the election was free and fair manner.
Mr Ogbalo claimed that the election was marred by serious irregularities, including open vote-buying that the security agencies failed to check.
“Labour Party won the election but was not allowed to take possession. What I mean by that is that the election was marred with serious irregularities; there was open vote buying. The security agencies failed to check this anomaly.”
“So in such a way where votes were bought and with manipulation of results here and there. What do you expect?”
He added that the party has not convened any meeting to decide its stance on challenging the results.
