The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has unveiled six newly developed electoral tools in the build-up to the 2027 elections. The digital tools designed to revolutionize election management were recently unveiled at a One-day Retreat in Lagos.
At the event, INEC chairman Professor Mahmoud Yakub noted that the tools were a strategic commission innovation to enhance the electoral process.
“These mobile applications represent our commitment to leveraging technology for transparent and efficient elections. They will transform everything from voter registration to results collation.” He noted.
About The New Tools
The newly designed tools include: CROMS – Collation & Returning Officers Management System, ERMS – Election Results Management System, VETS – Virtual Election Training System, PFRAS – Political Party Financial Reporting System, EMSC Dashboard – Election Monitoring & Support Center, and the EFLOC – Electoral Facility Locator.
Prof. M.J. Kuna, a member of the commission’s ICT unit emphasized that the digital tools developed and integrated by INEC’s ICT department are vital in boosting the efficiency, transparency, and agility of Nigeria’s electoral process. With full ownership of these applications, the Commission has the autonomy to adapt and refine them as electoral demands change, ensuring long-term relevance and reducing reliance on third-party providers.
The applications are to support critical electoral operations such as results management, deployment of Collation & Returning Officers Management System, tracking party finances amongst others to help reduce human error, save time, and enhance the overall credibility and effectiveness of election management. Additionally, their integration into INEC’s cloud infrastructure is to bolster the commission’s data security and facilitate better coordination among departments.
