Beware of 419: NLNG Issues Red Alert on Train 7 Scam

The Nigeria LNG (NLNG) Limited has issued an alert on its Train 7 Project, saying its attention has been drawn to the actions of some groups of persons and individuals masquerading as its agents with regards to the project.

The Train 7 Project is NLNG’s flagship gas expansion programme that seeks to ramp up its production capacity by 35 per cent from the current 22 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 30mtpa and is anticipated to deliver over 12,000 new jobs.

NLNG revealed via a statement on its website that impostors were demanding fees from companies, organisations as well as members of the public with the intention of including them in an “approved vendor list for NLNG Train 7 among other things.”

The energy firm debunked such claims as false and fraudulent, noting that all contracts for Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) works in relation to the project had been awarded to a consortium including Saipem, Chiyoda and Daewoo (SCD JV), which would oversee any subcontracting activities, and administer the vendors lists as endorsed by the Nigerian Content Development Monitoring Board.

It went further to say that no other group of individuals, persons, organisations or firms had been appointed by the NLNG in any capacity whatsoever as regards the project.

NLNG equally informed the public that the EPC contractor for the Train 7 Project (SCD JV) are independent corporate bodies from NLNG and that NLNG staff, directors or shareholders are not involved in managing any contracts or subcontracts on their behalf.

Consequently, its employees, directors or shareholders are not in a position to take any enquiries or requests related to “such contracts, subcontracts or employment opportunities in the Train 7 Project and will report any approaches for these matters in accordance with the Company’s Code of Conduct and Business Principles,” NLNG said.
