Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) has entered into a collaborative partnership with NEM Insurance Plc, focusing on internships, specialised training, and capacity building in risk management and insurance.
The partnership was formalized during a courtesy visit by Yabatech’s Rector, Dr. Ibraheem Abdul, to NEM Insurance’s Lagos headquarters. The engagement underscores a shared commitment to fostering education and workforce readiness in Nigeria.
Speaking during the visit, the Managing Director of NEM Insurance, Mr. Andrew Ikekhua, highlighted the company’s dedication to supporting educational initiatives. “At NEM Insurance, we understand how important education is in determining our country’s future. We’re dedicated to supporting programmes that get students ready for the ever-changing needs of the workforce,” Ikekhua stated.

Dr. Abdul expressed optimism about the collaboration, emphasizing Yabatech’s mission to produce industry-ready graduates. “Yabatech is committed to producing graduates who are both academically sound and prepared for the workforce. Working together with companies like NEM Insurance is crucial to accomplishing this objective,” he remarked.
Key aspects of the partnership include creating internship opportunities for Yabatech students, developing specialised courses in insurance and risk management, and designing hands-on training programs to prepare students for careers in the insurance and financial sectors.
Chairman of NEM Insurance Plc, Mr. Tope Smart, reaffirmed the company’s support for the initiative, describing it as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s educational and economic growth. “Your requests are guaranteed, and working together, we can accomplish significant milestones for Yabatech and NEM,” he said.
