President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a fresh round of appointments across Nigeria’s education sector, naming new governing board chairmen for key agencies while renewing the tenure of the head of the national library.
The appointments, announced in a statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, affect the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and other institutions under the Federal Ministry of Education.
Prof. Modupe Adeola Adelabu has been appointed Chairman of NECO’s Governing Board, while Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi will continue in his role as Registrar. Adelabu, a former deputy governor of Ekiti State, previously served as chairman of NBTE and is regarded as an experienced administrator in Nigeria’s education sector.

For NBTE, the President named Prof. Babatunde Salako as Chairman, while retaining Idris Bugaje as Executive Secretary for a second and final five-year term. Salako is a former Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research.
The President also renewed the tenure of Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as Director-General of the National Library of Nigeria for a final five-year term.
Anunobi, first appointed in 2021, has led reforms aimed at modernising the National Library, including the rollout of digital initiatives such as the National Repository of Nigeria and the National Virtual Library. Her reappointment is expected to ensure continuity in ongoing reforms and the completion of the National Library headquarters project in Abuja.
The presidency said the appointments are part of broader efforts to strengthen institutional governance and improve service delivery across Nigeria’s education ecosystem.
