President Tinubu Meets Sundar Pichai to Forge AI and Digital Innovation Partnership with Google

Nigeria to Partner with Google on Scalable Cloud Infrastructure, AI Research, and Workforce Development to Boost Global Tech Standing

President Tinubu Meets Google’s Sundar Pichai

In a recent statement from President Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria announced a groundbreaking initiative to advance its role in the global Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital innovation landscape.

Speaking from Paris, Tinubu highlighted the fruitful discussions held with Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google, as part of ongoing efforts to explore strategic partnerships between Nigeria and the tech giant.

The partnership, which will focus on five critical areas, aims to transform Nigeria’s digital economy and enhance its competitiveness in the global AI sector. These areas include:

  • Scalable Cloud Infrastructure: Strengthening Nigeria’s digital infrastructure to accommodate the increasing demand for cloud services and technology solutions.
  • Future Workforce Development: Equipping the Nigerian workforce with the skills needed to thrive in the rapidly evolving digital landscape, ensuring that Nigerians are prepared for the jobs of tomorrow.
  • AI Innovation and Research: Promoting groundbreaking research and development in AI, enabling the country to position itself at the forefront of technological advancements.
  • Cloud Adoption: Driving the widespread use of cloud technologies across businesses and government agencies, enhancing efficiency and innovation.
  • Nigeria as an AI Hub: Elevating Nigeria’s profile in the global tech community, positioning it as a key player in the AI revolution and a destination for investment in digital innovation.

President Tinubu also noted that Nigeria already boasts promising prospects in AI, with companies like Awarri Technologies at the forefront.

Awarri Technologies, which is collaborating with the Federal Government to build critical AI software infrastructure, aims to address local market needs that have often been overlooked by traditional AI models, including those related to arts, culture, languages, and societal specifics.

This collaboration will focus on developing innovative data capture platforms and a large language model (LLM) for Nigerian languages, in partnership with the National Centre for AI and Robotics (NCAIR).

This partnership with Google aligns perfectly with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasizes economic diversification through industrialization, digitization, and innovation.

Tinubu sees this as a key step in empowering Nigerian businesses, fostering new opportunities, and ensuring Nigeria’s position as a significant player in the global digital economy.
