President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared a nationwide security emergency and ordered additional recruitment into the Armed Forces.
The police will recruit an additional 20,000 officers, bringing the total force to 50,000 and in the absence of training facilities use various National Youth Service Corps camps as training depots.
Officers Withdrawn From VIPs to be Redeployed
Officers being withdrawn from VIP guard duties as a result of the president’s order are set to undergo crash training to debrief them and enable them deliver more efficient police services when deployed to security-challenged areas of the country.
DSS to Deploy Forest Guards
The DSS would now deploy all the forest guards already trained to flush out the terrorists and bandits lurking in our forests in addition to recruiting more operatives.
State Policing on The Horizon
The president has also pledged to remove all roadblocks to the establishment of state policing.
“I call on the National Assembly to begin reviewing our laws to allow states that require state police to establish them.” He said.
