FG Seeks US Support to Eliminate Terrorism, Criminal Networks in Nigeria
The Federal Government has expressed its readiness to work with the United States and other international partners to eradicate the remaining terrorist and criminal elements across the country.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made this known during a world press conference in Abuja on Wednesday.
Idris acknowledged the security challenges facing Nigeria but clarified that the situation is not targeted at any particular religious group, as falsely portrayed in some reports and data. He noted that President Bola Tinubu has strengthened efforts to address insecurity over the past two years, reflected in Nigeria’s improved rating on the Global Terrorism Index and the recent changes in the security leadership.
He urged the United States and other countries to support the Federal Government’s efforts toward eliminating criminal networks and restoring safety nationwide.
The minister also stated that the Tinubu administration is engaging with the US and other nations to resolve ongoing concerns, including allegations of human rights violations, and remains committed to improving security conditions for citizens.
His remarks follow the recent warning issued by United States President Donald Trump, who threatened possible military intervention in Nigeria over alleged killings of Christians, and the subsequent listing of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern.
