The naira strengthened against the US dollar at the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market (NAFEM), closing at N1,328.00/$ on 23 September 2026, compared with N1,331.00/$ recorded on 22 September.
The latest movement represents a N3.00 appreciation, or 0.23%, in the value of the naira at the official foreign exchange market, according to data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
In the parallel market, the naira also gained ground, with the dollar falling to N1,374.00/$ on 24 September from N1,375.00/$ the previous day, according to Bureau de Change operators. The N1.00 decline represents a 0.07% appreciation of the naira. The gap between the parallel-market rate and the latest NAFEM rate stood at about N46/$.

Pound, Euro and Canadian Dollar Rates
The British pound weakened against the naira in the parallel market, falling to N1,817.00/£1 from N1,826.00/£1. The N9.00 movement represents a 0.50% appreciation of the naira against sterling.
The euro also declined to N1,562.00/€1 from N1,568.00/€1, a N6.00 (0.38%) gain for the naira while the Canadian dollar eased to N974.00/C$1 from N976.00/C$1, representing a N2.00, or 0.21%, appreciation of the naira against the Canadian currency.
Nigeria’s external reserves edged higher to $54.808 billion as of 22 September 2026, up from $54.789 billion on 21 September, a rise of 0.03%, according to CBN figures.
