President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new registrar of the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) replacing Professor Ishaq Oloyede.

Professor Segun Aina is a Nigerian academic, computer engineering scholar, and public-sector systems expert recognised for his contributions to digital infrastructure, examination systems reform, and institutional transformation in Nigeria’s education sector.
He is a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University and is regarded as one of the youngest professors in his field in Nigeria after attaining professorial rank at the age of 39.
Born in July 1986, Professor Aina combines academic scholarship with extensive experience in technology policy, systems optimisation, and institutional reform.
He obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent in 2008 before earning an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
JAMB Career
Professor Aina’s early exposure to national admissions administration began during his National Youth Service with Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, where he gained practical insight into examination administration, admissions systems, and data-driven institutional processes. The experience would later shape his broader engagement with examination reform, digital transition, and institutional efficiency across Nigeria’s education ecosystem.
With over 15 years of post-graduation professional experience, Aina has operated at the intersection of technology, governance, and institutional transformation. He has advised federal and state governments on ICT systems deployment, operational redesign, digital migration strategies, and examination integrity frameworks.
His consultancy assignments have included work for National Business and Technical Examinations Board, state ministries of education in Osun and Ondo States, the Osun State Universal Basic Education Board, and development-focused public sector initiatives.
Beyond academia, he is known for promoting practical innovation and industry collaboration. In 2010, he co-founded Fluid Click Solutions Limited, an IT services and engineering project management company focused on technology-driven solutions across sectors including education technology, agriculture, hospitality, and vocational development.
Academia
As an academic, Professor Aina has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and conference papers spanning digital signal processing, computing systems, cybersecurity, and engineering applications. Colleagues at Obafemi Awolowo University have credited his rapid rise in academia to a combination of research output, institutional leadership, mentorship, and his commitment to connecting academic knowledge with real-world solutions.
Professor Aina is also active in professional and regulatory circles. He is a registered engineer with Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria and a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
At 39, he emerged as one of Nigeria’s youngest Computer Engineering professors and is positioned to become the youngest Registrar in the history of JAMB, succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede.
