A Tourist has narrated how much transportation fares at airports has skyrocketed following the ban on uber and other ride-hailing services and the introduction of an app controlled by the Federal Aviation Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
FAAN recently launched the Airport Car Hire Rank Management System (ACHRAMS) to control airport transportation effectively halting the operations of ride-hailing service providers in Nigerian airports.
Speaking on his experience, the tourist said “Just landed back here in Nigeria again. I heard that they recently banned Uber and other rideshare here at the Lagos airport. Let’s find out how much it costs to get a taxi from the airport now.
“I normally go to Ikeja, which costs about N6,000 – N8,000, which is about $4-6 on Uber.
The tourist then decided to book a ride on the airport’s app from MMIA Ikeja to Radisson hotel in Ikeja only to be told it cost N30,000 compared to the normal priced charged by Uber riders.
Uber Ban at Nigerian Airports
The transport disruption stems from an internal FAAN directive dated July 30, signed by U.R. Liman, General Manager of Commercial Services, ordering an immediate halt to all Uber and Bolt operations pending the execution of formal concession licenses.
According to the directive, commercial activities for both platforms must remain suspended across all FAAN-managed airports until licensing negotiations and operational agreements are fully finalized.
Alongside the commercial suspension, FAAN introduced strict vehicle age limits and mandated registration through its newly developed digital platform, the Airport Car Hire Rank Management System (ACHRAMS).
However, operators registered under the ACHRAMS framework confirm that the new system levies mandatory per-trip concession fees, which cab drivers are passing directly onto arriving passengers.
