Energy Institute Growth in Nigeria

The Energy Institute (EI) is the world’s leading chartered professional membership body for the energy sector, representing more than 20,000 members across over 100 countries.

The institute brings together professionals from the entire energy value chain including oil and gas, electricity, renewable energy, hydrogen, climate and sustainability to promote technical excellence, professional standards and knowledge sharing.

Globally, the institute supports members through professional accreditation, research, technical publications, policy engagement, networking and continuing professional development.

It also plays an influential role in advancing discussions around energy security, affordability and the transition to cleaner energy systems.

Nigeria has emerged as one of the institute’s key African hubs since the establishment of its local community in 2010. Headquartered in Lagos, the Nigeria branch convenes policymakers, regulators, academics, energy executives and young professionals through conferences, executive forums, technical seminars and policy dialogues.

The institute also collaborates with leading industry organisations, including the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) and the Women in Energy Network (WIEN), strengthening its influence across the country’s energy ecosystem.

The Energy Institute Nigeria is chaired by Osten Olorunsola, FEI, the former Director of Nigeria’s Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) and a widely respected petroleum geoscientist.

The executive committee also includes Dr Ibilola Amao, FEI, Vice-Chair for Youth Membership and a leading sustainability and clean energy advocate; Prof. Bayo Adaralegbe, FEI, Vice-Chair for Events and Collaborations; Dorothy Bassey, FEI, Vice-Chair for Membership; Felix Ekundayo, FEI, Vice-Chair for Capacity Building; Akinyemi Osinubi, Honorary Secretary; and Mahmud Modibbo, AMEI, Honorary Treasurer.

Young Professionals Network

The Young Professionals Network (YPN), launched by the Energy Institute in 2019, has become a prominent platform for nurturing future industry leaders through mentorship, technical workshops, career development initiatives and networking with senior executives.

The Young Professionals Network Nigeria is led by Hope Ofuka as Chair, supported by Fatima Aji as Vice-Chair (Events), Olubukola Moronkola as Honorary Secretary and Ayobami Adedinni as Vice-Chair (Media).

Why Membership Matters

As Nigeria pursues energy sector reforms, expands electricity access, grows renewable energy investments and develops new opportunities in natural gas and clean energy technologies, professional development and cross-sector collaboration are becoming increasingly important.

Membership of the Energy Institute provides early-career professionals with opportunities to build international networks, access world-class technical knowledge, receive mentorship from experienced industry leaders and stay abreast of emerging trends shaping the global energy transition.

For young Nigerians seeking careers in the energy industry, the institute’s latest membership drive offers a pathway into one of the sector’s most recognised professional communities.
