Daniel Bwala: Tinubu’s cabinet shake-up necessary, many ministers have failed

The lawyer claimed the Tinubu-led administration has achieved a lot, even though some ministers haven't performed as expected

Ardent supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and spokesperson to Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 presidential elections, Daniel Bwala, has supported the president’s plan to rejig cabinet.

Bayo Onanuga, the president’s media aide, had on Wednesday revealed the plan by the president to reshuffle his cabinet.

Onanuga, who spoke with journalists in the State House, said the ministers had been instructed to communicate their achievements to the president.

Reacting to the development in an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, Bwala supported the reshuffle plan.

The lawyer claimed the Tinubu-led administration has achieved a lot, even though some ministers haven’t performed as expected.

“The reason for the rejigging is that the president acknowledged that a lot has been done but has not been completed. I’ll blame the president if he doesn’t change the cabinet when he has acknowledged that there is a failure in it. All of us have acknowledged the fact that a lot of ministers have failed. You don’t have to go up and down to know it”, Bwala noted in the interview.

“What you must always judge with government is that at every given time, the motive of the government, the intention of the government and the accountability that the government brings to the people should be a factor for assessment, not necessarily because you want to see some extraordinary thing before you do that.”

The legal practitioner also said only the president understands the reason for his actions, adding “anybody else who tells you he knows who will go and who will stay I think the person is either second-guessing or the person is not being fair to himself.

The announcement of cabinet reshuffle plans by the president might not be surprising given the happenings in the country.

In the past months, policies of the Tinubu-led administration have thrown Nigerians into hardship, despite consistent claims that they’re well-intentioned.

The president has on several occasions defended his policies, insisting on tough decisions to pull Nigeria back from further damage.
