Dangote Plans Undersea Pipeline to Transport Petrol from Nigeria to Ghana

Dangote

Aliko Dangote has floated plans to build an undersea pipeline to carry petrol and other refined fuels from its refinery in Lagos to Ghana as part of his Group’s African expansion.

According to people close to the group cited by Billionaires Africa, the West African line would start at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lekki, and run to Apapa, people close to the Dangote Group. From there it would go under the sea past Seme, on the border with Benin, to Lomé in Togo, and on to Takoradi or Tema in Ghana.

Construction of the route which would broadly follow the West African Gas Pipeline, which already carries Nigerian natural gas along the same coast to Benin, Togo and Ghana is scheduled to begin in 2028, after the group completes or advances fuel infrastructure it is building in Kenya, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Namibia,

The line would let the refinery supply Togo directly and compete with Lomé’s storage terminals, a regional trading hub from which Nigerian fuel marketers still import some petroleum products. Dangote has pushed for years to replace imported fuel in West Africa with output from his 650,000-barrel-a-day plant, the largest single-train refinery in the world.

Similarly, Kenyan President William Ruto has confirmed that the government plans to revive a pipeline from the Turkana oil fields in the country’s northwest to Lamu, on the Indian Ocean coast with Turkana crude is expected to be one of several sources of oil for Dangote’s Lamu refinery.
