The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced the assumption of duty by Commissioner of Police (CP) Dantawaye Miller as the 34th Commissioner of Police for the Command. Miller officially took over leadership on Friday, October 17, 2025, from CP Ajao Adewale, who was redeployed for another strategic assignment by Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun.
According to a statement released by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the new police boss pledged to strengthen ongoing security efforts while fostering stronger ties with residents and community leaders.
“As he assumes duty as the 34th Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Miller has pledged to build on existing security frameworks, strengthen community-police partnerships, and ensure the safety and security of all residents within the Federal Capital Territory,” the statement read.
Adeh added that the command is calling on residents to continue supporting the police in maintaining peace and stability across Abuja. This collaboration, she said, is vital to combating emerging threats in one of Nigeria’s most sensitive and high-profile jurisdictions.
Described as a seasoned officer with over two decades of service, CP Miller brings extensive operational experience across several commands nationwide. “Born on October 15, 1971, in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Miller is the son of the late DCP Gajere Dantawaye,” Adeh stated.
He joined the Nigeria Police Force in May 2000 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and began his career in Bayelsa State in 2002. His career trajectory includes multiple sensitive roles such as Acting Aide-de-Camp to a former Governor of Bayelsa State, Escort Commander to a former Vice President, and Chief Security Officer at the Ministry of Petroleum. He also commanded MOPOL 24, attached to the Presidential Villa.
Miller’s previous postings include Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) in the FCT Command, Area Commander in Adamawa State, and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) in both Yobe and Edo States. He also served as Commissioner of Police in charge of Information Technology at the Force Headquarters, and most recently as Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command before his redeployment to Abuja.
The FCT Police Command remains one of Nigeria’s most strategic police formations, responsible for safeguarding government institutions, diplomatic missions, and key national infrastructure. The territory has faced persistent security challenges, ranging from banditry in surrounding suburbs to urban crime within the capital.
With his vast background in both field operations and strategic leadership, expectations are high that CP Miller will introduce new strategies to curb rising insecurity and restore public confidence.
His tenure will be closely watched as Abuja residents seek improved policing, faster response times, and stronger community engagement in tackling threats to lives and property.
