The Federal Government, on Tuesday, announced that state tertiary institutions are also included in the student loan scheme starting on Friday, 24 May.
A statement signed by Nasir Ayitogo, Media and Public Relations Lead, Nigerian Education Student Loan, noted that “some misleading narratives on social media” claimed that the student loan programme was solely meant for federal institutions.
“NELFUND categorically states that this information is incorrect,” Ayitogo said, adding, “State institutions are unequivocally by law included in our student loan programme.”

He stressed that “the programme is designed to roll out in phases in order to ensure effective and efficient management of the process. The first phase, for a start, will focus on students attending federal institutions.”
“The second phase, which will be launched shortly after the initial rollout, will extend the programme to students at state institutions,” the Education Fund spokesperson said.
Ayitogo further stated that NELFUND is fully committed to providing financial support to all eligible students, regardless of whether they attend federal or state tertiary public institutions.
