The ongoing investigation involving Bobrisky, also known as Idris Okuneye, and the social media influencer VeryDarkMan (VDM), has once again garnered attention.
The crossdresser failed to show up at the National Assembly Complex for a joint committee investigation.
Background
As Arbiterz earlier reported, Bobrisky was accused of bribing Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officers with ₦15 million to drop money laundering charges.
A leaked voice recording, shared by VDM, suggested that Bobrisky was allowed to serve his six-month prison sentence in a VIP facility instead of a correctional centre.
This allegation prompted the House of Representatives to initiate an investigation, inviting Bobrisky, VDM, and the EFCC to testify before a committee on corruption allegations.
VDM arrived at the House of Representatives hearing, where the focus was on clarifying the bribery allegations and the supposed preferential treatment granted to Bobrisky during his sentence.
Bobrisky failed to show up but was represented by his lawyer, Averosoghene Omuvwie.
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), which expressed concerns about the integrity of the criminal justice system, further elevated this issue by calling for an independent investigation by the Attorney General and the National Security Adviser.
Bobrisky’s legal issues started when he was given a six-month prison sentence for misusing the naira earlier this year.
The EFCC has promised the public that the investigation will be transparent and comprehensive, and that any officers found to have committed corruption will be held accountable.
