Match Report

Hansi Flick became the first Barcelona coach to win a Clasico derby against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu since Terry Venables in 1984. Barcelona dominated the match, making it a miserable evening for Los Blancos. The first half of the match saw neither side scoring. Kylian Mbappe had the best chance in the first half when he appeared to score his first Clasico goal but was ruled offside by VAR.

The second half of the match saw Barcelona coming to the fore. Robert Lewandowski scored twice in two minutes to silence the Bernabeu crowd. The first goal came when Casado spotted the width of Real Madrid’s center-backs and played a perfectly timed ball through the lines for Lewandowski. The striker dispatched it with a low, right-footed strike into the bottom corner!

Two minutes later Lewandowski scored again thanks to a Balde cross that he headed from the penalty spot at the far post. The home fans were left stunned as Barcelona celebrated. Vinicius and Mbappe combined to try scoring in retaliation but Pena was up for the challenge to deny Madrid a comeback. Mbappe scored again a few minutes later for the goal to again be disallowed.

As pressure and frustration mounted on the home side, Lamine Yamal killed the game with an emphatic third goal. Yamal latched onto Raphinha’s leading pass following Pena’s goal-kick, before smashing a right-footed strike that hit the roof of the net. T0 add insult to injury, Raphinha scored a fourth goal for the visitors. Martinez launched a pass forward into Real Madrid’s half for Raphinha. After ensuring to stay onside, the winger beat Vazquez for pace and latched onto the ball, before using his side foot to chip a finish over the head of Lunin.

Carlo Ancelotti will not be happy with Real Madrid’s recent form. While it has been a difficult start to life in Spain for Kylian Mbappe.
