Emmy-winning actress Ayo Edebiri has slammed Tesla CEO Elon Musk, claiming that a ‘fake’ post that he retweeted led to people sending her death threats and racial slurs.
Calling the billionaire an “idiot,” she shared a screenshot of his post that claimed that she would be replacing Johnny Depp in the sixth installment of Pirates of the Caribbean.
The Bear star took to Instagram to recall the incident, sharing a screenshot of Musk’s reaction to the baseless report. Musk reported the unverified report saying, “Disney S**ks.” His response seemingly amplified backlash against the actress.
Edebiri addressed the tweet by sharing a note that read, “Just remembering when I got some of the most in*ane death threats and racial slurs of my life (idk if it’s the #1 moment, but for sure top 3) for a fake reboot of a movie I had never even heard of because of this man LMAO.” She went on to call Musk a “double s**g h**l-ing fascist” and an “idiot.”
The controversy dates back to February 2024. However, it was later confirmed that the actress was never attached to Pirates 6. Instead, her rumoured character, Anne, was speculated to be part of a Pirates spin-off currently in development alongside the main sequel.
Meanwhile, Depp, who had previously expressed reluctance about returning to the franchise, has been at the centre of fresh speculation regarding a possible comeback as the beloved character that he has been playing since 2003. He was last seen in the role in the 2017 hit, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’.
