Atlético and Real Madrid saw the first half of the match finish with no score to show. As both sides looked to test each other’s defenses from the start with Alvarez starting the proceedings by shooting from a tight angle which Courtois saved. Real Madrid looked like having more of an attacking edge overall but Atlético had a solid first half too.
Real Madrid was without the services of Kylian Mbappé tonight due to an injury to his left leg’s femoral biceps. It’s speculated that the injury should keep the attacker out of action till the next international break. Real Madrid will look towards Vinicius and Bellingham to lead their attack in Mbappé’s absence.
The start of the second half saw the Los Blancos get the breakthrough from an unlikely source. Militão scored for Real to bring about the breakthrough! Vini Jr’s cross found the defender at the back post and he brought the ball down before firing a half-volley which clipped off Llorente’s leg before nestling in the net. Scoreline 1-0 Real Madrid.

The referee paused the game shortly after the goal when Courtois reported objects being thrown at him. Atlético players were seen trying to calm the supporters as the players left the field.
The play resumed with Real Madrid looking to control the game with their goal advantage. Atlético kept looking to find an equaliser egged on by the home crowd. It looked like Real Madrid would finish the game with a victory in this tense derby but Ángel Correa had other plans. Correa got a through ball from Javi Galán which he carried through the box. Before brilliantly taking the ball around Courtois and guiding it home under pressure from Vazquez.
