Arsenal began the game with a lot of energy as they threatened to score multiple times in the first half of the game. Ramsdel and Southampton had to play some gutsy defensive football to keep the Gunners at bay as the first half came to an end with a scoreline of 0-0.
The game opened up more as the second half got going. Both Arsenal and Southampton played more open football and looked to score. And it was the Saints who got the breakthrough in the game to silence the crowd in the Emirates.

Fernandes’ diagonal pass after a controversial challenge on Sterling set the substitute Archer away, who then got past Saliba who was a long way out. He then took a shot and put it past Raya and into the far corner to the away fans delight.
Arsenal responded quickly to the goal when Havertz for the seventh home game in a row scored the equaliser. Saka flicked the ball off Walker-Peters in midfield and immediately found the German, who took a touch before striking it off the far post and into the net. The Gunners were back on equal terms.
Arsenal then continued the momentum when Saka cut inside off the right and picked Martinelli out with a crisp cross to the back post. Martinelli struck it under Ramsdale to give Arsenal the lead. There was a long VAR check for offside but in the end, Arsenal got the goal confirmed. Scoreline 2-1.
The Gunners started exerting control in the game again and sealed the victory with a third goal from who else but Bukayo Saka. Trossard had a great run to bring the ball forward to the edge of the box before he was tackled, but a heavy first touch sent the ball straight into Saka’s path, who slotted it inside Ramsdale’s near post. Scoreline 3-1 Arsenal.
Arsenal win again at their home stadium to ensure they are right behind Liverpool in the league table standings. Only one point separating the two Premier League contenders. Arteta would be very happy with his teams performance.
