The position is under theRegional Integration Coordination Office (RDRI) responsible for spearheading the Bank’s “Integrate Africa” agenda.
This department ensures strategic coherence, programmatic alignment, and efficient resource allocation for regional integration initiatives. The department collaborates closely with the African Union Commission, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), and the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to drive investments and promote reforms that accelerate the implementation of Agenda 2063 and the AfCFTA.
The Lead, Regional Integration, is a Grade level 2 role which reports to the Director of RDRI, plays a pivotal role in advancing the Bank’s regional integration objectives. The incumbent provides technical and strategic advisory support, coordinates policy dialogues with key continental organizations, and offers thought leadership on regional integration both within the Bank and externally.
Key Job Responsibilities
Advise senior management on regional integration policies, strategies, and operations.
Lead the design and implementation of the Regional Integration Strategic Framework and Regional Integration Strategy Papers.
Collaborate with economists and program officers to develop knowledge products that enhance strategic and operational performance
Manage the regional operations envelope of the African Development Fund, focusing on concessional financing for regional integration projects in low-income countries.
Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of regional operations and public goods.
Oversee flagship regional integration knowledge products, including the Africa Regional Integration Index and the Africa Visa Openness Index.
Foster partnerships with the African Union, RECs, and related intergovernmental organizations.
Represent the Bank in regional and global forums, engaging in high-level dialogues with senior government officials to promote reforms and support the implementation of continental agendas.
Qualifications and Experience
A minimum of a Master’s degree in Economics, International Relations/Trade, Law, Social Sciences, or related fields.
At least 8 years of progressively responsible experience in multilateral organizations, with a focus on regional integration, policy dialogue, infrastructure finance, and project management.
Demonstrated leadership and teamwork abilities, with excellent communication skills.
In-depth understanding of Africa’s regional integration architecture, including the roles of the African Union, RECs, and the AfCFTA.
Strong analytical skills, with the capacity to translate strategic thinking into actionable plans.
Proven ability to make effective, timely decisions and manage risks prudently.
