The naira strengthened against the US dollar at the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market (NAFEM), closing at N1,329.50/$ on 30 September 2026, compared with N1,331.00/$ recorded on 29 September.
The latest movement represents a N1.50 appreciation, or 0.11%, in the value of the naira at the official foreign exchange market, according to data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
In the parallel market, the naira gained significantly, with the dollar falling to N1,350.00/$ on 2 October from N1,370.00/$ on 30 September, according to Bureau de Change operators. The N20.00 decline represents a 1.48% appreciation of the naira. The gap between the parallel-market rate and the latest NAFEM rate narrowed to about N20.50/$.

Pound, Euro and Canadian Dollar Rates
The British pound also weakened against the naira in the parallel market, falling to N1,800.00/£1 from N1,820.00/£1. The N20.00 movement represents a 1.11% appreciation of the naira against sterling.
The euro declined to N1,530.00/€1 from N1,555.00/€1, a N25.00 (1.63%) gain for the naira while the Canadian dollar eased to N954.00/C$1 from N965.00/C$1, representing an N11.00, or 1.15%, appreciation of the naira against the Canadian currency.
Nigeria’s external reserves edged higher to $54.920 billion as of 29 September 2026, up from $54.906 billion on 28 September, a rise of 0.03%, according to CBN figures.
