US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that all mines had been detonated or removed from international waters of the Strait of Hormuz and that Iran has been told that any ship or boat placing new mines will be destroyed.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the United States, through its Space Force, was watching “every square inch” of the Strait, a key waterway in the global energy supply chain.
The US president says the US Navy has informed him that “all mines have been removed and/or detonated from within the International Waters of the Strait of Hormuz”.
“Iran has been notified that any ship or boat placing new mines will be immediately and systematically destroyed,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
“There is a Zero Tolerance policy on mine placement in full force and effect.”
However, in response Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref says that Tehran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz “is an exercise of our legal and sovereign right over our national wealth”.
“The Strait of Hormuz is the property of Iran,” said Reza Aref, as reported by Iran’s ISNA news agency.
“We are fully prepared to confront the enemy,” said the vice president, adding: “We will make any enemy who so much as looks askance at Iran regret it”.
