Aggreko, a global provider of energy and temperature control solutions, has appointed Nigel Greatorex as its new General Manager for Nigeria, reinforcing the company’s commitment to expanding its footprint in one of Africa’s largest energy markets.

Greatorex assumed the role in early June, bringing more than 30 years of international experience across the energy, utilities, oil and gas, petrochemical, and industrial sectors.

His appointment forms part of Aggreko’s strategy to deepen its presence in Nigeria and strengthen its delivery of reliable, flexible and sustainable energy solutions to businesses.

Greatorex said he was joining Aggreko at an important time for both the company and Nigeria’s energy sector.

“Nigeria presents tremendous opportunities for innovation, growth and partnership. I am delighted to be joining Aggreko as the company strengthens its commitment to the country and its customers,” he said.

The company said Nigeria remains a strategic market due to rising demand for dependable power across key sectors including oil and gas, manufacturing, mining, infrastructure and commercial operations. Aggreko aims to support businesses seeking resilient energy systems that improve operational reliability while advancing sustainability goals.

Professional Background

Before joining Aggreko, Greatorex spent more than 36 years at ABB, where he held a series of senior leadership positions across the energy, industrial and oil and gas sectors. Most recently, he served as Global Industry Business Manager for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), leading global growth strategies focused on decarbonisation and energy transition technologies.

Prior to that, he was Global Segment Manager for Pipelines, Terminals and Storage between 2019 and 2023, overseeing strategy for critical energy infrastructure worldwide.

He also served as Head of Sales for ABB’s Energy Industries business in the United Kingdom from 2013 to 2019, following a three-year stint as Globalisation Manager responsible for driving international business expansion.

Earlier in his career, Greatorex was Local Business Manager for ABB’s Chemical and Pharmaceutical business from 2004 to 2010. Notably, he previously served as General Manager for ABB’s Oil and Gas business in Nigeria between 1999 and 2004, giving him first-hand knowledge of the country’s energy industry and operating environment.

He began his career with Elsag Bailey in the United Kingdom in 1990, holding various engineering and management roles before the company was acquired by ABB.

Commenting on the appointment, Edith Kikonyogo, Managing Director of Aggreko Africa, said Nigeria is central to the company’s long-term growth strategy on the continent.

She noted that Greatorex’s industry expertise, leadership experience and understanding of African markets position him to lead the company’s next phase of expansion in Nigeria.
