Babalakin & Co. is seeking a highly motivated Senior Associate to join its Energy & Extractive Industries Practice Group and provide legal and regulatory advisory services across the upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors of the Nigerian oil and gas industry.

Responsibilities
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering financial targets and objectives for the practice area.
- Managing billings and collections to ensure the average time to bill does not create unnecessary WIP.
- Preparing legal opinions and research memoranda on oil & gas issues.
- Supporting business development initiatives, including preparing pitches and participating in industry events.
- Providing strategic legal advice and conducting risk assessments.
- Advising clients on oil and gas licensing regimes, PSCs, JVs, farm-in/farm-out agreements, and asset divestments under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and other applicable laws.
- Drafting and negotiating oil and gas commercial agreements, including crude handling agreements, gas sale and purchase agreements (GSPAs), gas transportation agreements (GTAs), and service contracts.
- Mentoring and reviewing the work of junior team members and contributing to internal knowledge development and training.
- Reviewing and providing feedback on legal documents prepared by team members.

Requirements
The minimum education requirements are as follow:
- Minimum of 8 years post-call experience, with at least 5 years dedicated to Oil & Gas transactions and advisory
- LL.B from a recognized university (Minimum: Second Class Upper)
- Called to the Nigerian Bar with a minimum of Second Class Upper
- LL.M, MBA, or other relevant postgraduate qualification preferred
- Strong knowledge of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), NOGICD Act, and related regulatory frameworks
- Excellent drafting, analytical, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
- Experience in gas commercialization, energy transition, or cross-border energy transactions will be an added advantage
