NNPC Limited has announced the successful completion of the River Niger Crossing segment of the 130-kilometre Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) Gas Pipeline, a critical infrastructure project aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s gas transmission network.
According to the company, the successful crossing now unlocks the full capacity of the OB3 Pipeline, which is designed to transport up to 2 billion standard cubic feet of gas per day.
The pipeline is expected to improve domestic gas supply reliability, boost power generation, support industrial growth, and accelerate broader economic development across Nigeria.
The technically challenging crossing was executed nearly two kilometres beneath the River Niger riverbed using advanced Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) technology. The project was delivered by the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company in partnership with PCE Nig. Limited.
Reacting to the development, Group Chief Executive Officer Bashir Bayo Ojulari described the achievement as a defining milestone for Nigeria’s gas infrastructure expansion.
He stated that successfully crossing one of the most difficult segments of the project would enhance gas supply reliability, deepen domestic utilisation, and support electricity generation as well as industrialisation nationwide.
Ojulari also noted that the success builds on engineering experience gained from the AKK River Niger Crossing completed in June 2025, adding that the company deliberately scaled up its project governance, engineering innovation, and execution strategy to deliver the OB3 segment.
