MTN Nigeria has announced the exit of Mr Mazen Mroue as a Non-Executive Director, effective 27 February 2026.  This is to enable Mr. Mroue dedicate his full attention to other strategic priorities within the parent MTN Group Limited, where he serves as Chief Executive Officer of MTN Group Digital Infrastructure.

Mr. Mroue, a Lebanese telecommunications and digital infrastructure executive with more than 25 years of senior leadership experience across Africa and the Middle East, joined the MTN Group in 1998.

He previously held the role of Chief Operating Officer at MTN Nigeria from 2018 to 2022 before transitioning to Group-level responsibilities. He was appointed Non-Executive Director of MTN Nigeria in June 2022 and has also served as Group Chief Technology and Information Officer.

In his current capacity at MTN Group, he leads the Mobility and Fibre businesses, drives the data centre strategy, and supports key digital transformation initiatives, including network sharing, partnerships with tower companies, and non-terrestrial network collaborations.

The MTN Nigeria Board expressed deep appreciation for Mr Mroue’s valuable contributions during his tenure on the board, particularly his insights into strategy, technology, and operational excellence that supported the company’s growth and digital ambitions in Nigeria.

This development aligns with MTN Group’s ongoing leadership realignment to accelerate its digital infrastructure platform, including fibre expansion and data centre growth across the continent. No replacement has been announced at this time, and the board composition remains compliant with regulatory requirements.

The situation is part of broader executive adjustments announced by MTN Group in 2025, which included decoupling certain roles to sharpen focus on high-growth areas such as digital infrastructure.
