The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has called on members of the public to provide credible information regarding alleged incidents of child sexual abuse and misconduct in daycare centres across Nigeria.
In a public notice issued Tuesday via its official X handle, the agency said it was committed to thoroughly investigating concerns raised in recent public discussions and viral posts.
“Following recent public discussions and concerns raised regarding alleged incidents of child sexual abuse/misconduct in daycare settings in Nigeria, we are committed to thoroughly investigating credible reports,” the agency stated.
NAPTIP urged anyone with factual information, evidence, or direct knowledge of the alleged incidents, including individuals personally affected, to contact the agency confidentially.
“We kindly request anyone with factual information, evidence, direct knowledge, or who was personally affected by the matters referenced in the viral posts or related experiences to kindly reach out to us confidentially via DM or email us at info@naptip.gov.ng,” it added.
The statement comes in response to recent widespread public discussions and viral social media posts highlighting alleged incidents in daycare environments triggered by old tweets made by singer Simi.
In a series of old tweets unearthed, the singer had made allusions to improper behaviour around children in her mother’s daycare center.
