Time Magazine announced Wednesday morning that artificial intelligence architects have been selected as the person of the year for 2025, marking a historic recognition of the technology sector’s profound impact on global affairs.
The selection continues a tradition that began in 1927, when Time’s editors first started identifying the individual or entity that most significantly influenced headlines throughout the preceding year. This year’s honorees succeed President Donald Trump, who received the distinction in 2024 following his successful bid to return to the White House.
The choice of AI architects reflects the technology’s explosive growth and integration into virtually every sector during 2025. Artificial intelligence tools became standard features in workplace productivity software, creative applications and consumer technology. Major corporations across industries invested billions in AI development and implementation, fundamentally changing how businesses operate.

The magazine cited 2025 as the year when the potential of artificial intelligence “roared into view” with no turning back.
“For delivering the age of thinking machines, for wowing and worrying humanity, for transforming the present and transcending the possible, the Architects of AI are TIME’s 2025 Person of the Year,” Time said in a social media post.
