New Zealand is expanding its Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) system by adding two targeted visa categories to tackle seasonal labour shortages.

From 8 December 2025, workers can apply for the Global Workforce Seasonal Visa (GWSV) and the Peak Seasonal Visa (PSV), both designed to boost industries like agriculture, tourism, and food processing during high-demand periods.

Why These Visas Are Being Introduced

Seasonal labour needs in New Zealand often surge during activities like grape harvesting, glacier tourism, and seafood processing. The government says existing visa options have been too rigid, leaving employers struggling to fill short-term roles.

These new visas offer a precise, time-limited solution without creating long-term migration pathways.

The GWSV focuses on experienced seasonal professionals who can start work with little to no training. This targeted approach ensures industries get job-ready workers at critical times, increasing productivity and reducing onboarding delays.

By tailoring visas to predictable seasonal demand, New Zealand aims to support businesses when help is genuinely needed while safeguarding the stability of its broader immigration framework.
