The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the 2025 Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) will commence nationwide on Monday, August 18, 2025, beginning with online pre-registration via cvr.inecnigeria.org. This initiative is part of INEC’s broader plan to boost voter participation and ensure an inclusive, transparent, and credible electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, INEC disclosed that in-person voter registration will begin on Monday, August 25, 2025, at all Local Government Area offices and designated centres across Nigeria.
The physical exercise will run Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
INEC emphasized that the CVR is open to Nigerians who have reached the age of 18, as well as those who missed previous registration windows. “We encourage all eligible citizens to either begin the process online or visit our offices and designated centres once the physical registration begins,” the Commission stated.
Beyond new registration, the exercise accommodates requests for voter transfer, replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and corrections to personal data, such as names and dates of birth.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to enabling every eligible Nigerian to vote. “Our goal is to ensure every eligible Nigerian has the opportunity to exercise their civic right,” the statement read. “We are working to make the voter registration process accessible, transparent, and inclusive.”
As Nigeria moves toward the 2027 elections, voter registration remains a crucial step in shaping the nation’s democratic future.
