Oil Prices Today: Oil Prices Steady Near $100 as Supply Fears Ease

Brent crude price drop

Crude oil prices were broadly steady on Tuesday, after a sharp sell-off in the previous session, with Brent crude holding around $100.30 a barrel and US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) trading at $91.56.

WTI was down $0.81, or 0.88%, while Brent slipped just $0.01, or 0.01%, as markets paused following Monday’s decline that pushed both benchmarks to multi-day lows.

The latest movement marks a stabilization after the sharp drop, although oil prices remain below the highs reached earlier in September as concerns over Middle East supply disruptions have eased as expectations of diplomatic engagement between the United States and Iran during the United Nations General Assembly provided a source of relief for oil markets.

The pullback follows the mid-month surge in crude prices driven by fears of prolonged disruptions to regional oil supplies. On September 15, WTI was trading at $101.70 a barrel, while Brent stood at $105.70, according to market data reported by Arbiterz.

Brent Remains Above $100

Brent has remained close to the psychologically important $100-per-barrel level while WTI has fallen more sharply than Brent, partly reflecting differences in the contracts and the wider discount at which US crude trades relative to the international benchmark.

Tuesday’s relatively limited price movements suggest that traders are reassessing the supply outlook rather than pricing in a complete resolution of Middle East tensions.

A fresh disruption to regional exports or a breakdown in diplomatic efforts could quickly revive the geopolitical risk premium, while sustained improvement in Gulf oil flows could put further downward pressure on prices.

Although crude prices have declined significantly from their mid-September highs, they remain elevated compared with levels recorded at the beginning of the month.
