Nigerian doctor Titilope Fasipe and her team at the Texas Children’s Hospital have been selected as one of the top five finalists for the $100 million grant by the MacArthur Foundation as part of its 100 & Change competition.
The grant is to support Dr. Titilope Fasipe and her team in their mission to integrate essential sickle cell disease care into primary healthcare services across Africa to save affected children from the pain and discomfort associated with the disease.
Dr. Fasipe’s Battle With Sickle Cell
Dr. Fasipe was diagnosed with sickle cell at age one, she carried her diagnosis all through medical school and also had the ill-luck of losing her teenage cousin to sickle cell.

In her role as the director of the Texas Children’s Hospital Sickle Cell Program, she has helped enhance screening, awareness and treatment of sickle cell globally.
