Netherlands Digitalizes Visa Application Process

This means handwritten Schengen visa forms at the Visa Application Centre will no longer be accepted

VFS Global has announced that starting from August 4, 2025, all Netherlands Visa Application Centres (VACs) will only accept digitally filled visa application forms to streamline the application process, reduce errors, and cut down on processing times.

This means handwritten Schengen visa forms at the Visa Application Centre will no longer be accepted, and the Dutch government will now require all applicants to use the digital process.

Henceforth:

  • Only online-generated application forms will be accepted.
  • No more handwritten or scanned printouts.
  • You must create an account and fill out your visa form online through the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs portal.

How to Apply

You’ll need to fill in and submit your application form online. To fill the form, visit the official portal: https://consular.mfaservices.nl/create-account

Create an account to begin then fill out the form with information about your:

  • Passport details
  • Travel itinerary
  • Purpose of travel (tourism, business, family, study, etc.)
  • Accommodation and means of support

You will need to scan and upload supporting documents. Make sure your files are clear and legible. Essential documents typically include:

  • Printed, signed digital visa application form
  • Passport (valid for at least 3 months after your return date, with 2 blank pages)
  • Two recent passport-sized photos (as per Schengen standards)
  • Travel insurance covering at least €30,000 in medical expenses
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel bookings or invitation letter)
  • Flight reservations
  • Proof of financial means (bank statements, sponsor letter, etc.)
  • Cover letter explaining your travel plans

You may also need:

  • Work certificate or school letter
  • Proof of ties to your home country (job contract, property, family documents)

Additional documents might be required based on your specific purpose of visit.

 

 

Once you complete the form and upload all documents, submit your application online. The system then prompts you to schedule an appointment at your nearest Netherlands Visa Application Centre, where you provide biometrics and any remaining documents.
