Nigerian singer Korede Bello has ignited widespread discussion online after sharing a deeply personal message about faith, identity, and Christianity, while also revealing that he was born into a Muslim family.
In a video shared on his Instagram page on Sunday, the singer addressed what he described as a long-held reflection about the Christian faith, beginning with a question that quickly drew attention on social media.
Bello stated that his message was not meant to provoke controversy, clarifying that he identifies as a Christian and believes strongly in the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

According to the singer, his reflection was inspired by what he called a “Think Mega Church Edition,” where he began to question the continued emphasis on the crucifixion rather than the resurrection.
He explained that, in Christian belief, the crucifixion was not the final chapter, stressing that Jesus Christ rose from the dead and ascended into heaven.
“The cross was never the destination; it was the doorway,” Bello said, referencing biblical accounts of Christ’s resurrection and ascension.
He recalled Jesus’ words to the repentant thief during the crucifixion and noted that the final biblical encounter with Christ described Him ascending to heaven and sitting at the right hand of God.
Korede Bello further argued that while the cross remains significant, Christianity, in his view, should be rooted more firmly in the resurrection.
He explained that his realisation came during a moment of prayer when he felt compelled to rethink how Christ is often portrayed in Christian symbolism.
“When I think of Jesus, I think of my identity seated next to the Father. That’s where I see myself,” he said.
The singer also cited Apostle Paul’s teaching that the resurrection is the foundation of Christian faith, noting that without it, belief would be meaningless.
In a personal disclosure, Bello revealed that Christianity was not his birth religion.
“I was not born a Christian. I was born a Muslim,” he said, explaining that his decision to embrace Christianity was a personal journey rather than one imposed by family or tradition.
According to him, his exploration of the Bible began for personal understanding rather than religious obligation.
Bello expressed concern that many believers remain spiritually attached to the image of Christ on the cross, which he believes symbolises an old identity that has already been redeemed.
He also addressed prayer and communion, stating that remembrance of Christ, according to biblical instruction, is centred on communion rather than fixation on the crucifixion.
Highlighting love as the defining mark of Christian identity, Bello referenced Jesus’ teaching that love for one another is what truly distinguishes His followers.
Concluding his message, the singer encouraged believers to embrace renewal and live Christ-like lives grounded in love and spiritual growth.
“Be well, be safe, be renewed, and be Christ-like,” he said.
The video has since generated mixed reactions across social media, with many praising his honesty and spiritual depth, while others continue to debate his interpretation of Christian symbolism.
