Speaking in a viral video during a meeting with members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gbajabiamila recounted how President Tinubu contacted him during the controversy surrounding the attempted impeachment of Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.
According to Gbajabiamila, the President informed him that intelligence reports indicated that Elliot, who represents Surulere Constituency I in the Lagos Assembly, was among the lawmakers allegedly involved in the plot.
“He is part of the people causing problems in the Lagos Assembly. I am telling you from intelligence that he was part of them. Go and tell him to retrace his steps,” Gbajabiamila quoted Tinubu as saying.

Gbajabiamila said he immediately defended Elliot, insisting that the lawmaker was not involved, despite not having spoken to him at the time.
“I just said he wasn’t,” he stated.
The former Speaker of the House of Representatives said he later contacted Elliot and warned him that if he was indeed part of the group, he should withdraw from the matter.
However, Gbajabiamila said Elliot failed to address the allegations directly and instead “started cutting corners.”
Three days later, he said, his own name became linked to the controversy, with claims that he was backing Elliot’s actions.
He added that he asked Elliot to publicly deny involvement in the crisis, but no clear statement was made.
“If not for the kind of relationship I had with the President, I wouldn’t be here today,” Gbajabiamila said.
The remarks have sparked fresh discussion about the internal tensions within the Lagos political establishment and the role played by influential figures in the Assembly dispute.
