Education Minister Resolves Long-Standing NYSC Issue, Introduces New HND Admission Portal for Seamless Mobilisation

Full-Time HND Graduates Now Eligible for NYSC Mobilisation

The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa, resolved the debate concerning the eligibility of Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Following discussions with the NYSC Director-General, the minister confirmed that only graduates of full-time HND programs are now eligible to participate in the mandatory National Youth Service scheme.

The minister was unequivocal in delineating the eligibility criteria. “This development marks a significant breakthrough for full-time HND graduates who were previously excluded from the NYSC program. It underscores the Federal Ministry of Education’s commitment to equity, fairness, and inclusivity in the nation’s education system. However, those who did HND part-time are not eligible for mobilization at all,” the ministry’s statement read.

Dr. Alausa reiterated this stance, emphasizing that part-time HND holders remain excluded, ensuring the scheme retains its focus on full-time academic rigor.

To facilitate this policy shift, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has been tasked with accelerating the compilation of data for eligible full-time HND graduates. A dedicated HND admission portal has been established to serve as the official database for NYSC mobilisation.

“To facilitate a seamless mobilisation process, the National Board for Technical Education has been directed to expedite the collation of data for eligible HND graduates. In line with this, a circular has been sent to all Rectors of Polytechnics, instructing them to upload the necessary graduate data onto the newly created HND admission portal,” the ministry announced.

This digital solution aims to eliminate previous challenges tied to inconsistent admission records.

Dr. Alausa urged all full-time HND graduates to seize this opportunity without delay. “NYSC mobilisation is strictly for those who completed a full-time HND program,” he stressed, underscoring the government’s intent to maintain clarity and order in the process.

The minister encouraged eligible graduates to engage with their institutions and the new portal to ensure proper documentation and swift mobilisation. This move reflects the administration’s broader commitment to fostering equal opportunities for all qualified Nigerian graduates.

The resolution signals a renewed push by the Federal Ministry of Education to integrate polytechnic graduates into the NYSC framework, aligning with the scheme’s goal of harnessing youth potential for national progress. By limiting eligibility to full-time HND holders and introducing a robust data management system, the government aims to enhance accountability and efficiency.

Dr. Alausa reaffirmed this vision, stating that the policy exemplifies the administration’s dedication to inclusivity and equitable access to national service opportunities.
