Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc has announced the appointment of Mr. Mulhim Eltayeb as an Executive Director, effective 1 December 2025, in a strategic move aimed at strengthening the company’s backward integration programme (BIP) and accelerating domestic sugar production capacity.
His appointment was approved by the Board on 17 November 2025, subject to shareholder ratification at the next general meeting.
According to the corporate filing, Mr. Eltayeb is a highly respected professional with over 35 years of global experience across strategic management, project execution, and agribusiness consulting—particularly in the sugarcane industry across Africa, the Americas, and Asia.
A Global Expert in Sugarcane Agribusiness
Mr. Eltayeb holds a Master’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Washington State University, USA, and a postgraduate certificate in Agribusiness from Middlesex University, UK.
His career spans some of the most complex sugar-sector development projects on the continent.
Highlights of his professional background include:
General Manager, Kenana Engineering and Technical Services (KETS), Sudan (2007–2017) – where he oversaw major industry modernization projects, capacity expansion, and technical advisory across multiple continents.
Chairman, KEPM Projects, Dubai – providing high-level consulting and project management for sugarcane industry players.
Interim Executive Officer, Africa Sugar Development Taskforce (ISO) – collaborating with governments, industry stakeholders, and development partners to advance sugar-sector growth across Africa.
Sugar Backward Integration Programme Advisor, Dangote Industries Limited (2024–2025) – providing strategic guidance on project execution and operational improvement across the Group’s sugarcane assets.
He has also presented at major global forums on agribusiness strategy, climate resilience, sugar industry development and sector diversification.
Driving Dangote’s Sugar Backward Integration Vision
In his new role as Executive Director in charge of BIP Operations, Mr. Eltayeb will lead Dangote Sugar’s long-term backward integration masterplan—an initiative central to Nigeria’s national sugar development policy.
His mandate includes:
Overseeing large-scale sugarcane cultivation and farming projects
Managing end-to-end backward integration operations
Strengthening local raw sugar sourcing
Enhancing project delivery and operational efficiency
Supporting the Group’s goal of sustainable, locally driven sugar production
