Dangote Group has announced the appointment of Jamil Mohammed Abubakar as Managing Director, Infrastructure & Logistics, effective immediately.
According to the memo addressed to all staff, Abubakar will oversee the group’s ports and trade-enabling infrastructure platform, a key pillar of Dangote’s Vision 2030 strategy aimed at building scalable, pan-African logistics networks. He will report directly to Dangote and is expected to drive the development of new port and infrastructure opportunities across Nigeria and the broader African market.
Aviation Experience
Abubakar brings over 14 years of experience in commercial aviation, having worked across multiple airlines, including IRS Airlines, Azman Air, NG Eagle, and XE Jets. He previously served as Chief Pilot at both Azman Air and NG Eagle Airlines, where he was responsible for flight operations, safety oversight, and fleet and crew management.
He was Chief Pilot at NG Eagle from November 2024 to December 2025, where he oversaw crew management and fleet operations. He held a similar leadership role at Azman Air Services Limited earlier in 2024.
Between 2022 and 2023, Abubakar worked as a Captain with XE Jets, operating in a high-performance private aviation environment. His earlier tenure at Azman Air from 2017 to 2022 as an Airline Transport Pilot saw him fly Boeing 737 aircraft, indicating certification at one of the highest levels of commercial aviation.
He began his aviation career at IRS Airlines, where he served as a Commercial Pilot on the Fokker 100 between 2011 and 2017.
Commercial Experience
Beyond aviation, he has held governance and investment roles. He is a board member of Greenview Development Nigeria Limited, a subsidiary of Dangote Industries, and previously served as Director at Aximites Energy Limited between 2013 and 2019. In the public sector, he held non-executive roles at the Zamfara State Investment and Property Development Company and the Zamfara State Directorate of Investment and Public-Private Partnerships from 2021 to 2023.
Academically, Abubakar holds a Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems and Multimedia, with a background in Business Information Technology, alongside multiple aviation and management certifications.
Aliko Dangote noted that the appointment aligns with the group’s ambition to expand its logistics backbone, improve operational efficiency, and unlock new trade corridors that support industrial growth.
The new managing director is also expected to work closely with existing leadership to enhance capacity utilisation and drive operational automation across the infrastructure portfolio.
