The Federal Government has set a February 17, 2025, deadline for civil servants to complete their identity verification process. This move is aimed at eliminating ghost workers from the government’s payroll system.
The directive was issued by the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) in an official memo, which was made available to the public on Saturday. The verification is to be conducted through the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) portal.
Key Verification Requirements
To complete the verification process, civil servants are required to provide their:
- Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN)
- IPPIS number
- Salary account number
Final Deadline and Consequences for Non-Compliance
According to the memo, an extension was granted to employees who were unable to complete their validation before the initial deadline. The verification portal will remain accessible for an additional week, from February 10 to February 17, 2025.
The memo states, “All concerned employees must conclude their payroll information update by midnight on Monday, February 17, 2025.”
Failure to comply with this directive may result in severe consequences, including suspension from the payroll.

Responsibility of Government Agencies
Accounting officers, finance directors, and heads of internal audit units within ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) have been instructed to circulate this directive and ensure strict compliance widely.
Crackdown on Salary Fraud
This verification initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s directive in 2024, which mandated that civil servants receiving salaries while residing abroad must refund the money. The President also ordered disciplinary action against supervisors and department heads who facilitated or ignored such fraudulent activities.
This latest measure further reinforces the government’s commitment to maintaining a transparent and accountable public service payroll system.
