Arsenal maintained their grip on the Premier League title race with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium on Wednesday night, thanks to an early strike from Bukayo Saka.
The win keeps Arsenal F.C. five points clear at the top of the Premier League table as the title race intensifies, with defending champions Manchester City F.C. continuing to apply pressure.
Saka Breaks the Deadlock Early
The decisive moment arrived in the opening stages when Saka cut inside from the right and fired a low shot toward goal. The effort took a heavy deflection off a Brighton defender and looped past goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen, giving Arsenal the lead.

Although the goal carried a measure of fortune, it rewarded Arsenal’s ability to capitalise on moments despite Brighton’s strong start.
Brighton had earlier threatened to open the scoring when midfielder Carlos Baleba was gifted possession following a misplaced pass from Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya. Baleba attempted a lob, but defender Gabriel Magalhães recovered brilliantly to head the ball off the line.
Brighton Control Possession but Lack Cutting Edge
Despite trailing, Brighton enjoyed long spells of possession and appeared the more assertive side in midfield.
Manager Fabian Hürzeler’s team created several promising situations but struggled to produce clear-cut chances. Forward Georginio Rutter tested Raya with a shot inside the box early in the second half, while substitute Yankuba Minteh injected energy down the flank after the interval.
Another opportunity fell to midfielder Mats Wieffer, whose free header drifted wide when Brighton looked poised to equalise.
Arsenal, however, remained defensively composed. Declan Rice’s ball-winning presence in midfield and Gabriel’s assured defending repeatedly disrupted Brighton’s attacking momentum.
Arteta’s Tactical Discipline Holds Firm
For Mikel Arteta, the performance highlighted a growing maturity in his side. Arsenal had fewer shots and less possession than their hosts but remained organised and disciplined throughout.
The manager made second-half adjustments, introducing Kai Havertz and former Brighton winger Leandro Trossard to add fresh attacking energy as the match opened up.
Brighton continued to push forward in search of an equaliser, including a late cameo from former Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck, but Arsenal’s defensive structure held firm.
Title Race Remains Tight
The victory ensures Arsenal avoid a repeat of their painful 3–0 defeat to Brighton in May 2023, a result that effectively ended their title challenge that season.
This time, Arteta’s side showed greater resilience, absorbing pressure and securing a crucial away win.
With Manchester City also winning their match against Nottingham Forest on the same evening, the Premier League title race remains finely balanced heading into the final stretch of the season.
For Arsenal, however, the message was clear: even when outplayed for periods, they possess the composure and quality to grind out results — a hallmark of genuine champions.
